Os famosos números ordinais (primeiro, segundo, terceiro, etc) são um problema pra muitas pessoas que praticam inglês, devido à pronúncia e uso deles.
Vamos começar com um pequeno exercício de números. Após o exercício, leia e pratique, através de áudios, os sons dos números ordinais (ordinal numbers) nesse post, que está bem detalhado e com muitos exemplos. No final do post tem mais exercícios para você fazer.

A representação dos números ordinais
Geralmente você verá 04 representações dos números ordinais. Essas representações são as duas últimas letras do número em extenso, e essas duas letras são colocadas depois do número:

A pronúncia do TH
A maioria dos números ordinais tem as letras “th” no final deles, tanto na escrita quanto na pronúncia. É necessário pronunciar as letras que aparecem nos números para distinguir o som dos números cardinais (1 = one, 2 = two, 3 = three, etc). Não deixe de ouvir os áudios para praticar sua pronúncia.

Números ordinais terminados em 0 (zero)
Para modificar um número cardinal para ordinal é simples: quando um número ordinal terminar em zero, vamos remover o Y do número cardinal e acrescentar IETH para transformá-lo em número ordinal. Não esqueça de colocar as duas letras finais perto do número.

Transformando um número cardinal em ordinal
No número ordinal, o que vier antes da dezena (último número) será composto pelos números cardinais. Já a dezena em si será o número ordinal. Veja os exemplos, agora com números variados.

Os números do centésimo ao noningentésimo (que terminam com zero) na escrita em inglês terminam com a palavra “hundred”. Para transformá-los em números ordinais, acrescentamos o TH no final da palavra. Não deixe de ouvir:

Você percebeu que os números ordinais em português são muito mais difíceis de serem lidos do que em inglês. Por isso temos uma vantagem em aprender os número ordinais em inglês.
