Contração é uma maneira informal de fala e escrita. Essa é a base para você entender e diferenciar quando uma escrita é formal e informal. E, além da escrita, é possível identificar também uma fala formal e informal, porque as pronúncias feitas com contrações são diferentes das frases formais (que são gramaticalmente mais completas).

Exemplos de frases formais e informais
A tabela abaixo representa uma frase em português, mas duas maneiras em inglês dessa frase ser falada: formal e informal. A coluna do meio representa uma linguagem formal, usada em e-mails ou ambientes formais, como reuniões com chefes e pessoas muito importantes. Já na terceira coluna, note que as palavras com ‘ (apostrophe) são frases informais, ou seja, a terceira coluna representa a linguagem mais comum entre amigos, familiares, e ambientes informais, como redes sociais (pela escrita), nas academias, igrejas ou bares (pela fala).

Ain’t – A negativa muito informal
Ain’t é uma negativa muito informal, usada para substituir frases negativas com:
- O verbo BE no presente
- A gramática do verbo BE com There no singular
- A gramática do Simple Present (don’t e doesn’t) e
- A gramática do Simple Past (didn’t)
- A gramática do Present Perfect
Essa negativa é muito usada em músicas e contextos extremamente informais. O que muitos sites e professores aconselham é não usar “Ain’t” em empresas, pois alguns consideram essa escrita e fala uma gíria.
